The Omnipod 5 is a tubeless hybrid closed loop insulin pump that now also has mobile app integration.
This smart phone integration has been a game-changer for diabetics as it has enhanced convenience, accuracy, and control in managing diabetes.

The compatibility of the Omnipod 5 app for iPhone, with the pod, has been a long awaited mobile phone integration, as many people have iPhones.
They wanted the added convenience of not having to carry around the Controller in addition to their smart phone and the Omnipod 5 app for iPhones has made that possible for iPhone users as well.
Let's explore the amazing benefits of using the Omnipod 5 mobile app!
What is the Omnipod 5 App for iPhone?
The Omnipod 5 system is a tubeless insulin pump that is FDA approved for both type 1 and type 2 diabetics and has helped to vastly improve the glucose control of many people living with diabetes.
This system comes with a Controller, that looks similar to a smart phone, to input insulin pump settings, change pod, input sensor information, and take boluses.
This is the first tubeless automated insulin delivery system that can be fully controlled from both Android and iOS smartphones.
The Omnipod 5 app for iPhone (currently compatible with iOS 17 and iOS 18 devices) enables the users to control the tubeless insulin pump via their iPhone, rather than having to carry both the iPhone and the Controller.
It is currently only compatible with the Dexcom G6 sensor, but Insulet anticipates the integration of the Omnipod 5 app for iPhone with the Dexcom G7 by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Key Features of the Omnipod 5 App for iPhone
Automated insulin delivery is an amazing feature of the Omnipod 5 app and is positively impacting thousands of people living with diabetes.
This feature automatically adjusts the users basal rate based on the data received by the integrated Dexcom sensor.
Glucose monitoring integration and insulin automation is attained by the Omnipod 5 app connecting to the Dexcom G6 and allows users to view their glucose data right on the app.
This app also features remote monitoring, allowing the users to track and manage insulin delivery no matter where they are. This has greatly increased convenience and it has resulted in an increase in compliance.
This Omnipod 5 mobile app has a really user-friendly interface and most users report how simple it is to navigate.
It also features smart alerts, notifying users when they've been low or high for too long, when they are low on insulin, for connectivity issues, and more.
With these features, users are being more proactive with their glucose management and experiencing improvements in their glucose and A1C levels.
How to Set Up and Use the Omnipod 5 App on iPhone
Step 1: First you will need to log in to the Controller to register the device. Once you have registered the Controller using the username and password created with your Omnipod account, you can move to the Omnipod 5 app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Download the app from the App store
Step 3: You will need to do the same thing you did on the Controller, by logging into your Omnipod account to sync the pump.
Step 4: At this point, you will need the customized settings your doctor will have filled out with you. You may be assigned a trainer, or do self paced by watching the videos on the Omnipod website. But it is very important to have the specific settings provided by your doctor to put into the app.
Step 5: After inputting the settings information, the app will prompt you to connect to your CGM. Connecting to your sensor enables automated insulin adjustments.
Step 6: Troubleshooting connectivity may be necessary at this step. Ensuring proper placement of the pod and sensor (on the same side of the body) is important for the bluetooth connection.

Benefits of Using the Omnipod 5 App on iPhone
One of the features that stands out the most for users is the convenience of having their Omnipod 5 connected to an app on their iPhone.
This enables them to not have to carry a device in addition to their phone (the Controller) and to be able to control their insulin delivery directly from their phone.
For many people who are uncomfortable giving themselves injections in public or having a diabetes device that people may inquire about, feel this is a game changer.
Several clients have reflected on how it provides so much convenience and privacy. Additionally, people don’t even know they are using their phone to control their insulin needs and how much this has helped with maintaining privacy.
The accuracy and automation of the smart adjustments, based on the glucose trends, has improved many users' health outcomes all around.
Having the remote access and not having to carry an additional device around has also improved user compliance and more consistent and frequent interaction with the pump, which optimizes their glucose management.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting Tips
Some users may experience bluetooth connectivity issues. It is important to ensure it has been properly paired with the correct sensor and that the sensor is compatible.
Confirm that bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and if connection issues persist, try restarting the iPhone.
Managing paired devices may also help by removing any paired devices no longer being used. iOS and the Omnipod 5 app for iPhone updates may be available, so ensure that the latest version of both is being used.
If the app crashes or freezes, try updating the iOS and reinstalling the app. If issues persist, contact Omnipod product support - (800)-591-3455.
Their support team is available 24/7 and they provide customized support to help with whatever the issue may be. My experiences with them have always been exceptional.
The Omnipod 5 app for iPhone users has truly enhanced diabetes management.
Not only is it convenient and easy, but the system has vastly improved the life of many of its users in not only simplifying their diabetes management, but also aiding in improved glucose control.
