Normal Blood Sugar Levels Chart: A Guide for Prediabetes Prevention

Have you ever heard the term, “blood sugar” and felt it was a familiar term, but you just weren’t 100% sure of exactly what it meant?
Well, sugar is a normal component in our blood and there is a specific level of our “blood sugar” that is normal, a level that is below normal, and a level that is above normal.

This is important to know and understand because low or high blood sugar can be detrimental to our bodies, and it is essential that we keep our blood sugar as normalized as possible.
Prediabetes is basically a warning sign that your body is not responding to the sugar in your blood effectively enough to keep it at a normal level.
If prediabetes goes untreated, it will lead to a diagnosis of type two diabetes.
This means that your body is likely insulin resistant, which causes the sugar in your blood to rise as it is not effectively being moved to the cells to be used for energy.
A normal blood sugar levels chart is essential for people with prediabetes, or for those with a family history of diabetes as it helps them to understand and assess their risk.
Understanding the reference ranges on a normal blood sugar levels chart is very important and will help immensely in assessing a glucose management plan and or adjustments that need to be made.
What Are Normal Blood Sugar Levels
There are different ranges for blood sugar levels that help us define normal, what is considered prediabetic, and that which is within the diabetic range.
It is important to understand There are different times of the day that blood sugar should be checked, and that the glucose value differs.
For example, a fasting blood sugar that is considered normal is less than 100. For a prediabetic, the range is 100 - 125. To be diagnosed with diabetes, it would have to be 126 or above.
There are then different ranges for post meal blood sugar levels, and reference ranges for A1C levels as well.
A normal blood sugar levels chart can provide clear guidelines for healthy glucose ranges.
Understanding the numbers can help detect prediabetes early, so that the individual can make adjustments right away to reverse the diagnosis.

Prediabetes: What It Means and Why It's Important to Understand the Blood Sugar Levels Chart
Prediabetes is a critical warning sign that you are on track for diabetes if things are not changed.
Prediabetes and diabetes differ in that prediabetes is when your blood sugar levels are elevated above normal, but not to the level where they would be considered high enough to be diabetes.
The good news about prediabetes is that it can be reversed!

With lifestyle adjustments such as diet, exercise and weight, prediabetes can be reversed and your blood sugar levels brought back down to normal ranges.
Those who are at risk for prediabetes are people who have a poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle, are overweight, have a family history of diabetes, and or other health conditions, such as PCOS or insulin resistance.
Being proactive, if you know you are at risk, is essential in reversing prediabetes.

Self monitoring glucose levels is extremely important because it helps you to see what is impacting your blood sugar levels, both good and bad.
It can help prevent the progression to diabetes as you will have real time data telling you exactly what is causing your blood sugar to rise and helping you make informed decisions to make adjustments that will work in your favor.
It’s important to check your fasting blood sugar levels daily. I like to say “feet on the floor”; this is when you will check your blood sugar, as soon as you get up and put your feet on the floor.
The other time it is extremely important to know your glucose levels is after meals, also known as “postprandial levels”.
You can track your blood sugar by using tools such as a glucometer or a continuous glucose monitor. Most of these devices are able to be tracked on an app via your smart phone.
The data provided by these monitors is invaluable in ensuring you are driving your blood sugar down and reversing your prediabetes.
When to See a Doctor & Next Steps
Prediabetes doesn’t always have signs or symptoms, though sometimes people do present with them.
It is important to know your family’s health history and take the prediabetes risk test to find out if you are at risk of becoming diabetic.
If you take this test and conclude you are at risk, it is important to ask your doctor to add an A1C level to your lab work at your next appointment.
