Avocado Mousse: The Benefits for Diabetics

Are you looking for super healthy and delicious dessert options that are simple and won’t spike your blood sugar?

Enter - Avocado Mousse.

Avocado Mousse a great option for diabetics!

Yup!

This dessert is so creamy, smooth, delicious, and healthy!

One day, my husband was venturing out into my world of nutrition and trying new things and he found a recipe for avocado frosting. My kids ate this up and LOVED it!

With our son’s glucose issues when he was a baby, we continue to be very conscious  of the choices we make for our kids. Most  of the time, we pick healthy options that we know won’t have much impact on our glucose levels.

They had no idea avocado was the base of this delicious and sweet dessert and it made this health conscious mama very happy. Since then, I started to experiment with different healthy avocado desserts and stumbled upon the avocado chocolate mousse.

What you will need to make this avocado mousse:

Avocado Chocolate Mousse Instructions:

  • 1 Ripe Avocado

  • 2 TBSP Cocoa Powder

  • 2 TBSP Almond Milk (or mild of choice)

  • ½ tsp Vanilla Extract

  • 2 TBSP Truvia (or 2 TBSP Maple Syrup)

Throw all of the above ingredients into your Ninja Blender and blend until smooth! It is so quick and easy to make and it tastes like regular chocolate mousse. Blending it helps with the amazing smooth texture.

PS - I love my Ninja blender and will be buying myself a newer version soon! The one I have has several different options such as: chopping, blending, smoothie, etc for the various things it’s used for. It is very simple to assemble and disassemble, and cleaning it is a breeze. I highly recommend it!

I have had mine for MANY years and use it for everything! Avocado mousse, my smoothies, hummus, homemade salsa, soups, you name it.

Remember, feel free to adjust the amounts of the ingredients above to your taste. You may need it sweeter, or not so sweet, etc. Feel free to experiment with it, that is part of the fun!

How to Serve the Avocado Mousse:

Once it is pureed to perfection, you can scoop it out into small serving dishes and eat just like that, or you can chill it in the refrigerator for a few hours. Pro tip - my kids LOVE when I add some unsweetened, or homemade whipped cream onto this smooth and creamy heavenly dessert.

With avocados at the base of this delicious dessert, here is a small list of all the health benefits of consuming it to satisfy that sweet craving (in moderation of course):

  • Low in the Glycemic Index - this means that they have minimal effect on glucose levels as they take longer to be digested.

  • A Healthy Fat - rich in heart healthy fats, they improve insulin sensitivity and in turn, improve glucose levels for diabetics.

  • High in Fiber - which slows down the absorption of sugar in the blood stream, preventing rapid spikes and also improves digestion which works to assist in weight management.

  • Anti - Inflammatory - rich in anti-inflammatory  properties, which aids in reduction of the often experienced insulin resistance (related to inflammation) in diabetics.

With all the above health benefits and the amazing taste of this dessert, I suggest you give it a try!

Reminder - although avocados are very nutrient-dense , they must still be consumed in moderation as they are also calorie-dense  due to the fat content. But definitely a much healthier, satisfying, and beneficial choice, in moderation.

Enjoy and please share your thoughts and any adjustments you made to your avocado mousse!
